Our Western Wrangler Experience
Forget the ordinary trail ride where the only thing you know about your horse is their name. At Humberstone Ranch, we believe that meaningful connections can exist between horse and rider.
Our Western Wrangler Experience provides a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Our slower pace and serene setting allow our guests to unwind, disconnect from technology, and enjoy the simplicity of the ranch. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly vacation idea, a fun date for couples or anything in between, we’ve got you covered.
Pre-ride Registration
Please arrive approx 20 minutes in advance so we can prep you and begin on time.
Horse Behavior & Communication
Set the stage for a memorable ride. Your experience begins with instruction on horse behavior and communication. Learn the nuances of approaching and interacting with horses, ensuring a bond of mutual respect and safety.
Meet Your Horse
Meet your horse and learn about their unique personality. Form bonds with your horse as you groom them and help saddle them for your ride.
Expert Demonstrations
Watch the precision and grace of expert riders who have mastered the arts of horseback riding, lassoing, and cattle handling.
Western Riding Skills Teaching
You'll mount your horse and head into our arena to learn Western-style riding. Our friendly trainers teach you simple tools you can use to confidently horseback ride.
Western-Style Horseback Riding
The highlight for many, use your newfound skills - and understanding of horse communication - to horseback ride. Weather and temperature determine locations, but options include our arenas, pastures or through the property.
Ranch & Rodeo Roping Practice
The next step in your cowboy adventure is the introduction to the fundamentals of ranch and rodeo roping. You'll learn rope handling and lasso techniques as well as practice ground roping on stationary targets.
Photo Opportunities
There will be lots of photos! We'll provide opportunities for you to capture amazing photos.
Things to Know
Your Reservation
Reservations are required for all experiences at our ranch. We cannot accommodate walk-ins.
To ensure we start on time, arrive 20 minutes early to allow for check-in, waivers and any necessary preparations. As this experience can accommodate up to four, additional guests may join you.
Due to the complex nature of scheduling a working ranch, all sales are final.

Food & Drink
While we do not currently offer food and drinks for sale at the ranch, we provide complimentary water and granola bars for our visitors. We recommend bringing any additional food or beverages you may need during your time at Humberstone.
Dress Code
Dress comfortably and in layers for the weather. Ideal clothing includes jeans or long (not loose) pants as well as jackets or shirts without hoods. Thin gloves are optional but no mittens.
Boots with a bit of a heel or traditional cowboy boots are preferred to ensure your feet stay secure in the stirrups. No jewelry that can get caught in the horse’s tack.
Helmets
All guests under 18 must wear a helmet, without exception. For adults, helmets are encouraged and provided on site.
If an adult does not wish to wear a helmet, they are required to sign a waiver.
Requirements
For the safety of our guests and our animals, on this experience:
- At least 8 years of age
- Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
- Max 250lbs
- Bring a great attitude
- No smoking on entire premises
- No drinking beforehand
- No riding experience necessary
Weather
Humberstone Ranch is a four-season facility. In the event of inclement weather, experiences will be held inside our indoor arena.
Photos
For safety, you can’t take photos or use your phone while riding. But don’t worry, we’ll provide lots of photo opportunities at designated times!
Your Instructor
James Davidson
For the past 20 years, James has trained extensively in various disciplines such as western pleasure, western horsemanship, reining, cutting, cow work, extreme cowboy racing, rodeo/ranch roping and cowboy mounted shooting.
Certified in Equine Assisted Personal & Professional Development (E.A.P.D.), James has used his horses to facilitate personal and professional growth.
By working with horses, participants can gain insights into their problem solving approaches as well as their interactions with others.
His dedication and talent have earned him victories and placements in competitions and rodeos across Ontario – and internationally – particularly excelling in team roping and cowboy mounted shooting.
James horsemanship skills have even made their mark on-screen. He’s participated in stunts and filming for movies, television shows, music videos and commercials. Some of the projects include the Apple TV series “See” starring Jason Momoa, the music video “I’ll Wait for You” by Drake & Future.
