Our Intermediate Riding Program

At Humberstone Ranch, offers a unique blend of hands-on learning, western riding tradition, and real ranch experience. From the moment you step onto our property, you’ll feel like part of the Humberstone family. Here, horseback riding is about more than skills—it’s about building confident riders and lasting partnerships between horse and rider.
FIRST LESSON – PRIVATE LESSON
$75 for the First Lesson (Approx $150 value)
New to Humberstone? Your journey begins with a 60 minute one-on-one private session designed to set you up for success. This isn’t just an assessment—it’s a chance to work closely with one of our experienced instructors, refine your skills, and talk through your riding goals. At the end, we’ll recommend the best-fit group for your level, so you can move forward with confidence and clarity.
SUBSEQUENT LESSONS – INVITE ONLY SMALL GROUPS
$65 member pricing OR $75 for non-members
From there, you’ll be invited to join one of our members-only intermediate to advanced riding groups—each designed to align with your experience level and personal riding goals:
Ranch Riding (All Round)
Build a strong foundation across multiple western disciplines.
Includes riding, cattle work, horsemanship and roping .
Beginner or Intermediate Roping
Develop timing, accuracy, and confidence at your own pace.
Includes groundwork, tracking, cattle work and throwing from horseback,
Western Riding
An engaging and more relaxed learning experience.
Includes horsemanship, control, confidence-building and skill progression.

Meet Your Instructor

James Davidson
For the past 20 years, James has trained extensively in various disciplines such as western pleasure, western horsemanship, reining, cutting, cow work, extreme cowboy racing, rodeo/ranch roping and cowboy mounted shooting. Certified in Equine Assisted Personal & Professional Development (E.A.P.D.), James has used his horses to facilitate personal and professional growth. His dedication and talent have earned him victories and placements in competitions and rodeos across Ontario – and internationally – particularly excelling in team roping and cowboy mounted shooting. James horsemanship skills have even made their mark on-screen. He’s participated in stunts and filming for movies, television shows, music videos and commercials. Some of the projects include the Apple TV series “See” starring Jason Momoa, the music video “I’ll Wait for You” by Drake & Future. James and the horses at Humberstone Ranch most recently appeared in the Neflix series “Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War”.

Terms
Your Reservation: Reservations are required for all experiences at our ranch. We cannot accommodate walk-ins.
All Sales Final: Due to the nature of scheduling a working ranch, all sales are final.
Rescheduling: As a working ranch, we require a minimum of 48 hours notice should you need to reschedule your lesson.
Arrive Early: To ensure the best experience please arrive 20 minutes early. This allows time for check-in, waivers, and getting settled before your scheduled lesson begins.
Don’t Be Late: Humberstone Ranch is a working ranch with a full daily schedule and animals that rely on consistent care and routines. Every lesson and experience is carefully timed to protect the well-being of our animals and ensure they get the rest, feed, and downtime they need.
By arriving on time, you’re helping us care for our animals and keep your experience—and everyone else’s—running smoothly. Thank you for understanding and respecting our horses, animals and our team.
Late Policies
Late Policy For Group/Non-Private Experiences: Anyone arriving at the Ranch after the scheduled start time for any group experience (i.e. you have not upgraded to private) cannot be accommodated. If you arrive after the scheduled start time, you will forfeit your experience without refund or credit.
Late Policy For Private Experiences: For those who have upgraded to a private experience, your experience will still end at the originally scheduled time, and you’ll receive only the remaining portion of your experience. No refunds or credits will be given for missed time. In addition, if you arrive more than 20 minutes after the scheduled start time, you will forfeit your experience without refund or credit.

Riding Dress Code
- MUST wear boots with a bit of a heel OR traditional cowboy boots to ensure your feet stay secure in the stirrups.
- MUST wear jeans or long (not loose) pants.
- Dress comfortably and in layers for the weather.
- No jewelry that can get caught in the horse’s tack.
- In colder weather, thin gloves are optional but no mittens.
Helmets
All guests under 18 must wear a helmet, without exception. For adults, helmets are encouraged and provided on site.
If an adult does not wish to wear a helmet, they are required to sign an additional waiver.
Requirements
- Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult
- Max 250lbs
- Bring a great attitude
- No smoking on entire premises
- No drinking alcohol beforehand
Weather
Humberstone Ranch is a four-season facility. In the event of inclement weather, experiences will be held inside our indoor arena.
Phone Usage
For safety, you can’t take photos or use your phone while riding.
