Humberstone Ranch: Niagara Region’s Premier Western Riding Lessons

Forget an ordinary experience where all you know about the horse you are riding is its name. Horseback riding at Humberstone Ranch is about the bond between horse and rider. From the moment you step onto our ranch, you’ll feel like part of the family. Our staff will greet you with a smile and ensure you’re prepared for your lesson.

What To Expect At Your First Lesson

1. Before you even mount your horse, you’ll spend time getting to know your equine partner. You’ll be introduced to grooming techniques, learning how to brush and saddle your horse, fostering a sense of trust and comfort between you and your new friend.

2. We prioritize your safety, including basic riding techniques, safety protocols, and proper gear fitting.

3. Once mounted, you’ll learn the essentials of Western riding in a controlled environment, practicing walking, turning, and stopping and more. Our instructors will provide personalized feedback, ensuring you build confidence and skill at your own pace.

4. As you become more comfortable, you’ll have the opportunity to ride in our arenas, over obstacles and along scenic trails, experiencing the beauty of our ranch and the surrounding landscapes. This part of the lesson allows you to apply what you’ve learned in a real-world setting, enhancing your connection with the horse and nature.

5. After the ride, there’s time to reflect. Our instructors will debrief the session, offering tips for improvement and answering any questions you might have. You’ll also learn how to properly care for your horse post-ride, including cooling down.
